MASkargo - Official Air Cargo Partner For The 2004 Japan Championship Formula Nippon Series

KUALA LUMPUR (Malaysia), 10 September 2004 - Malaysia Airlines Cargo Sdn Bhd (MASkargo) today reaffirmed its support towards the development of local motorsports, by fully sponsoring the shipment of car engines for the Japan Championships Formula Nippon.

The sponsorship deal, which would cover the Malaysian leg of the Formula Nippon Championships, will involve the delivery of 16 car engines from Japan to Malaysia and vice versa.

MASkargo will be flying in the engines using its B747 Freighters and upon arrival in Malaysia, the engines will be handled by the division’s ground logistics subsidiary, Pengangkutan Kargo Udara MAS or PKUM.

The engines will be in action during the Malaysian leg of the Formula Nippon race between 18 and 19 September 2004 at the Sepang F1 Circuit.

Malaysia Airlines Senior General Manager (Cargo), J.J. Ong, said the division is proud to be associated with such a prestigious motorsports event and hope this co-operation with Sepang International Circuit (SIC), will continue in the future.

“With the development of motorsports activities being given them emphasis by the government, it is only natural for MASkargo being the nation’s premier air cargo carrier, to support this project,” Ong said.

MASkargo, the air cargo division of Malaysia Airlines and ranked among the top three air cargo carriers in Asia, is the primary airline for sport shipments such as Formula 1, MotoGP and the KL Horse Grand Prix.

MASkargo operates two owned and six leased B747-200 freighters, and its freighter services currently cover KLIA (KUL), Penang (PEN), Hong Kong (HKG), Melbourne (MEL), Perth (PER), Osaka (KIX), Shanghai (PVG), Bangkok (BKK), Dubai (DXB), Taipei (TPE), Sydney (SYD) and Tokyo (NRT).

In Europe, MASkargo destinations include Amsterdam (AMS), Frankfurt (FRA), Manchester (MAN) and Basel (BSL). It also offers belly space capacity on Malaysia Airlines passenger fleet serving almost 100 destinations worldwide.

At the KL International Airport (KLIA), its home base is the Advanced Cargo Centre (ACC), a 108-acre complex designed specially for MASkargo’s sophisticated state-of-the-art cargo handling facilities and touted as one of the region’s advanced cargo centre.
